Drum Corps International...Yayee Yay!
I totally know what I'm talking about, and I know everything there is to know about Drum Corps.
With that said, it was fun. Actually, a lot of fun. Some of the corps, see I know what I'm talking about, had incredible themes.
The crowd favorite, and looking at some other blogs, people were in agreement about Phantom being the best. Sparticus story with the color guard acting as slaves. Fantastic. It was fun to watch, and it was the only group to end with overwhelming applause. Besides the visuals, the actual music was pretty epic too.
The judges didn't really agree. There seemed to be two honest people that had Phantom as number one, but the others chose the Blue Devils. Hardly memorable at all. I turned to my friend next to me and said, "I don't even remember what Blue Devils did." He told me they were the last group to perform.
Yeah. If you're the last group to perform, and I still couldn't remember what your theme was, it wasn't good enough to win. Then again, I have a short attention span.
Now to the point of that graphic. The video crew sucked! Camera angles were poorly chosen at awkward times. Blurry focus. Oh, and don't get me started on the, (what do you call them?) announcers. Absolutely horrid.
Coughing on camera, awkward silences incredibly lame and stupid questions. With tickets apparently doubling from last year, I wouldn't expect to go back unless the production changed.
Oh, and what's up with George Hopkins? I have a good idea! Let's mix drum corps with theater! We'll put a tiny stage in center field and have equal focus on a narrative and music. But, let's have members of the corps record some incredibly lame dialogue to act out!
Who wrote the narrative? My cousin could write it better. Here's some short background info for you: My cousin is three and likes to eat his own poop.
Seems like George needs to be around some people that say no more than yes.
