Let's get it out of the way. I love Rock Band, and sorta...sorta like Guitar Hero. (Although, GH4 is looking better every day.) RB and GH has given me an appreciation for the Rock that I never had, nor I ever cared to acquire. It is solely because of these games that I listen to a different radio station along with different songs on the iPod.
So here's my deal. I can only tolerate so much of the Rock. I like it, but I want more popular songs. Coheed is a good start, but they only have two songs. One of which isn't even a master track! Linkin Park (a good song would be nice) or something more recent would be fantastic.
My main problem with these games, as you can tell, is the DLC. It seems like there is one or two songs every few months that I would actually enjoy listening to and playing. I can't be the only one that feels this way, right?
A friend of mine went with me to Gamestop after lunch one day. We took a little break to play some RB, and he said he couldn't wait to get more Pop songs on RB. My reaction was something short of appalled. Pop? On Rock Band? No thanks.
Now, I find myself agreeing with him. Maybe not the pop that he wants, but definitely the more popular modern rock songs. I was surprised when they offered American Rejects. That's a fun song to play. It's been too long and too few songs that are similar.
At the very least, get the songs that were actually popular in that era.
Off to Aerosmith. Does anyone really want to buy a full game based solely on Aerosmith? Sure, it will sell, but of all the bands...
Count me out.
